PM Modi Addresses Newly-Recruited Government Personnel

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed more than 61,000 newly-recruited government personnel during a virtual event for the 18th edition of the Rozgar Mela. The event was held simultaneously at 45 locations across the country.

PM Modi challenged the recruits to reflect on the difficulties they experienced while engaging with government offices over the past 5–7 years. He emphasized the importance of preventing similar issues for citizens during their tenure.

Significance of the Address

This address comes at a time when the Indian government is heavily focused on reforming bureaucracy and enhancing public service. By directly engaging with new recruits, Modi aims to instill a service-oriented mindset among them, which is crucial for improving government efficiency.

Highlighting progress in various sectors, Modi stated that India’s economic position has gained international trust, creating new opportunities for the youth. He mentioned that the country is the only major economy that has successfully doubled its GDP over the past decade.

Bureaucratic Reforms and Youth Empowerment

Encouraging Reflection and Action

The Prime Minister urged recruits to identify and recall their past experiences with government offices, including any frustrations or inefficiencies they faced. “You will not let those difficulties happen to other citizens during your own tenure,” he stated, assigning them the crucial responsibility of implementing small-scale reforms.

He remarked, “Every new recruit has a role to play in the ongoing ‘Reform Express’ that is transforming our bureaucratic framework.” This initiative aims to strengthen both the ease of living for citizens and the ease of doing business in India.

Honesty in Public Service

Modi stressed the importance of integrity among government employees, stating that their moral compass greatly influences the effectiveness of reforms. Addressing the recruits, he introduced the motto ‘Nagrik Devo Bhava,’ which translates to ‘Citizen is akin to God,’ as a guiding principle for their work.

The integration of these values is intended to foster a service-oriented culture among bureaucrats, enhancing their dedication to public welfare.

Government Initiatives and Economic Growth

Employment Generation through Infrastructure Investments

Modi emphasized the unprecedented investments in modern infrastructure, which he claimed have significantly boosted employment, especially in sectors related to construction. The Prime Minister highlighted that these advancements are instrumental in creating new job opportunities for young people across the country.

He also mentioned that India’s thriving startup ecosystem now comprises nearly 200,000 registered startups, employing over 2.1 million young individuals. This exponential growth signifies an emerging market that continues to attract investments from over a hundred countries.

Support for Entrepreneurs and MSMEs

Touching upon recent modifications in the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the PM highlighted how these next-generation reforms have benefited youth entrepreneurs and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He noted that labour reforms have also reinforced social security for workers, which in turn facilitates a conducive business environment.

These measures are expected to spur further economic activity and drive growth across various sectors of the economy, thereby enhancing overall stability.

Ongoing Employment Initiatives

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), more than 1.1 million recruitment letters have been distributed through Rozgar Melas since the initiative began. This figure indicates a comprehensive effort by the government to combat unemployment and provide job opportunities to the youth.

The Rozgar Mela program is aimed at aligning the aspirations of a growing youth population with the available opportunities in the public sector, ensuring that citizens receive timely and effective services.

Conclusion and Future Directions

The Prime Minister concluded his address by emphasizing the responsibility of new recruits to uphold the values of service and commitment throughout their careers. He encouraged them to work diligently in their respective roles, keeping the welfare of citizens at the forefront of their efforts.

As India moves towards a more streamlined and effective governance model, the involvement of young government personnel will be crucial. The emphasis on reform not only signifies a shift in policy but also reflects a broader commitment to public welfare.
